Consider these Land's End swimsuits. Feminine and cute. AND age appropriate.
If you page through the kids catalog, you do indeed come across 2 piece styles vs the tankini style above but they are age appropriate AND cute and feminine. This is a company that I love, love, love for providing stylish options for men, women and kids but also providing the tried and true classics that stand the test of time and aren't affected by trends. If you are looking for cute dresses and other summer clothes for girls, the LE "Knit Kit" is another sure bet. Cute feminine clothes, dresses for twirling with leggings or shorts underneath, and the prices are right. Garnanimals for this generation of girls. And our girls will need to grow up soon enough anyway, right? I was heartened my eldest wanted some leggings to wear under one of her girly dresses the other day and she looked cute as could be when she put the look together. Let's hear it for cute and age appropriate and girls having the time to be girls.

I totally agree! My daughter is 7 and very tall for her age. She is often mistake for being a 10 year old (drives my son who is 10 crazy). It is so hard to find age appropriate things for her to wear. I buy almost all of her things from Lands End and did buy one of those suits in there for her this spring. Kids need to be dressed like kids.
I couldn't agree more :-) Gymboree is also great and Hanna Andersson too, but I get the codes for Lands End, so I'm biased.
I totally agree with your comments WRT letting girls be girls...in clothing choices, in toy choices, in everything. We all grow up soon enough anyway. I admire the moms (like you) of girls who are able to successfully navigate this sartorial minefield of belly-baring tops, low-cut jeans and swimsuits that show too much.
I love LE, too...their stuff lasts forever and can make it through 2, 3, even more kids. I buy my own swimsuits at LE because they have such a great selection of long-torso suits.
On a separate note, glad to see you blogging again, V...keep it up!
Thanks Merleskaya! Watch this space, I'm a lazy preppycrat today but just may turn out a new post in the next couple of hours or so.
